Rigby Scholarship Application


Eligibility: You must be a Walla Walla University biology major qualified to take upper-division classes at the Rosario Beach Marine LaboratoryStudents taking General Biology or students who have previously received a Rigby scholarship are not eligible. 

Award Criteria: Award decisions are based on academic performance (G.P.A. + other factors), financial need, employment history/commitment, a written essay, funds available, and the number of scholarship applications.

Essay submission


In order to be considered for an award, you must submit a short essay. The essay must be a maximum of 800 words. It will be evaluated on your thoughtful and clear explanation of the following points. 

  1. Why are you a biology major? Why are you interested in science?
  2. What are your current professional/long-term goals? What options are you examining?
  3. How will the Rosario experience assist you in reaching your goals?
  4. What significant contributions have you made to the community, to the university, and to the biology department?

You must submit this application and essay to the biology department by noon on MondayFebruary 17, 2020.  

Late materials will not be considered and early submission is appreciated!  

Make sure to carefully proofread your essay.  Written communication skills are crucial for all scientists.
